Empire Ormolu and Marble Portico Clock ~ French - Circa 1890 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A superb original antique French portico clock. Beautifully modelled in the Empire style in a stunning variegated green marble with finely gilded ormolu bronze mounts. The clock is formed as a four pillar portico, the movement mounted in a drum with the sunburst ormolu pendulum swinging gently below.

The dial is prettily painted with floral swags between the numbers on porcelain enamel. It is complete with it's original finely fretted gilt brass hands.

The French movement is of high quality and is by A. D. Mougin. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Ormolu pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running.

Condition of the ormolu is excellent, beautifully clean and bright with hardly any discolouration and wear. The dial is also in excellent condition. Marble has some and nibbles to the edges, a small chip to the front of the base and two faint cracks through the pieces to each side of the movement drum.
