The large dial is porcelain enamel on copper and is complete with its original finely fretted gilt brass hands and convex glass. The French movement is of high quality and is by A.D. Mougin. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video below to hear the bell and watch the clock running. An similar 18th Century clock can be seen in the "Encyclopedie de La Pendule Francaise" by Pierre Kjellberg, page 101. The subject of the clock is probably based on a few Rococo influences of the mid 18th century, the putti paintings of François Boucher and perhaps the painting 'Children floating on the clouds' by Johann Heinrich Tishbein the Elder. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with some slight wear and discolouration. There are a few minor flaws in the casting. The dial is also very good with just some slight marks. We have replaced the red fabric with fresh. There are some light scratches to the original glass. The rear door has been replaced at sometime.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
