The dial is porcelain enamel on copper with separate minute ring and finely fretted gilt brass hands. The rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The French movement is of high quality and is by A. D. Mougin. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is orignal. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. The dial is also in excellent condition just a faint hairline between the five and six. Candelabra are slightly distorted. Among many great jewellery houses, Verger Frères made magnificent objets d’art and jewels. The founder of this great firm was Ferdinand Verger (1851-1928), both a jeweller and a watchmaker at rue Sainte-Anne no 51 under the name of Verger Frères (Verger Brothers). Beginning in 1879, Ferdinand Verger started to work as an agent for the famous house of Vacheron Constantin. That later developed into a long-lasting partnership. While they were often associated with Vacheron Constantin, Verger produced pieces for the finest houses in the world such as Cartier, Lacloche Frères, Hermès, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany, Gübelin and Boucheron. The house of Verger was unique in that it was involved in all the aspects of
jewellery and watch and clock making. It employed a whole array of artisans – lapidaries,
stone-setters, gold, platinum and silversmiths, enamellers, clockmakers and casemakers, designers and renderers and so on, all of whom were fully employed
by the firm. Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
