Antique French Ormolu and Sèvres Porcelain Clock ~ French - Circa 1850 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A fine and early ormolu clock of Louis XV design, beautifully made in superb mercury fire gilded Bronze Doré. The large porcelain enamel dial is mounted in a fluted drum, with scroll supports upon a serpentine shaped white Carrera marble base with ormolu feet. To the front is an exquisite Sèvres style porcelain panel depicting cupid with an arrow with a Bleu Celeste ground.

The dial is signed for the prestigious retailer Martin Baskett & Martin of Cheltenham. It is complete with its original finely fretted gilt hands and convex glass. The rear bezel is also glazed with convex glass to allow the movement to be seen.

The French movement is of high quality and is signed to the back plate for Martin Baskett & Martin. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video to hear the bell and watch the clock running.

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with just some wear to the high spots and to the rear where less gold was applied. The dial is also in excellent condition, some slight hairlines and wear. Porcelain is also excellent, the overglaze gilt decoration is very good. The marble has a good polish, there is a small repair to the rear left corner. 

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
