Large Antique French Gilt Bronze Clock by Japy Freres~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A stunning, tall and majestic original antique French Rococo clock. Beautiful Louis XV waisted shape with "C" scrolls, shells and floral swags. The front of the clock is fretted to lighten the design and also to allow the pendulum to be glimpsed swinging within the case. The clock is of very good quality with crisp, sharp and finely detailed modelling and the gilding has a lovely clean and bright finish.
The dial is enamel on copper with a beautifully fretted, gilt bronze centre and original blued steel hands. The French movement is by Japy Freres and is the maker's usual high quality. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses.
