Antique
Clock Set ~ by A. D. Mougin
~ French
- Circa 1890 ~
~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~
A large and stunning original antique French clock set. It is beautifully made
in gilt brass in the Baroque style. It features an armorial bearing to the front
with a shield and wings, flanked by mythical creatures. Above the dial is a
goddess mask and a large ornate urn. The clock stands on paw feet. Candelabra
are conforming in style with elaborate arms modelled as scrolling foliage. Flame
snuffers sit in the middle nozzle as a finial when not in use.
The large dial is ornately cast in brass and mounted with 12 individual shield
shaped enamel cartouche letters.
The French movement is of high quality and is by A. D. Mougin,
the makers mark is on the movement backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having
been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8
days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear
the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is
excellent, beautifully clean and bright with hardly any
wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent
condition with no damage to the cartouches. Candelabra are slightly distorted
and there is an old repair to one arm which is hardly noticeable. The set makes a stunning
display as you can see below.

About us
- All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in
France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in
original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have
developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul
the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they
will run trouble free.
