Stunning Specimen Marble and Ormolu Portico Clock Set~ French - Circa 1890 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A stunning antique French portico clock set. It is made of the most beautiful variegated specimen marble, with salmon pink and silver blue veining, mounted with finely finished ormolu (gilded brass/bronze). It is classical in style, the clock is mounted between a four column portico with the pendulum visible swinging below. The original ormolu pendulum depicts a basket abundant with fruit and flowers. The base of the pillars are decorated with acanthus leaves in ormolu. Below the dial is a frieze with an unusual faux jasperware panel depicting a classical maiden with a cherub. The classical urns have ormolu handles and sit on conforming serpentine bases.
The dial is enamel on copper, exquisitely decorated with floral swags delicately painted between the numbers of the dial. Hands are gilded, finely fretted brass. The French movement is by Société Clusienne of Cluses near the Swiss border. It is of the highest quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. It is complete with its original ormolu pendulum, runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the movie below to watch this clock running! About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
