Large Bronze Antique French Clock Set~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A large and stunning original antique French bronze clock set. It is beautifully designed in the classical taste, of architectural form with bold scrolling acanthus bracket feet standing on an integral base. To the top is an elaborate finial and beneath the dial, the front of the case is fretted to allow the pendulum to be seen swinging within the case. Candelabra are conforming in style with four branches of scrolling acanthus supporting four nozzles with a fifth to the centre in which the original snuffers sit when not in use. The original bronze patination is in lovely condition with a deep golden brown colour.
The stunning dial is gilt brass with 12 individual enamel cartouches, original blued steel hands and convex glass. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen, either if the set is displayed in the centre of the room or perhaps if it is displayed in front of a mirror on a mantle. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is
excellent, the original patination is beautifully clean with some slight
wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent
condition just some small chips to the edge of three of the cartouches. Candelabra are slightly distorted. The set makes a stunning
display as you can see below. Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
