Japy Freres Large Rococo Clock Set~ French - Circa 1890 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A large and stunning original antique French Rococo clock set, in immaculate condition, having been restored in our workshop. It is finely modelled in gilt bronze with bold scrolling acanthus, swept 'C' scroll feet, fretted panels and featuring a charming figure of a cherub with palm branches to the top, an allegory for victory. Candelabra are conforming in style with bold asymmetric urns and seven lights. This is a beautifully made set, crisply modelled and finished.
The superb dial is enamel on copper with a separate minute ring, lettered in blue on a cream ground. It is complete with the original finely fretted gilt brass hands and convex glass. The French movement is by Japy Freres and has the makers mark on the movement backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles to the winding holes and a light hairline. Candelabra are slightly distorted and one nozzle insert is a replacement or has been repaired. The set makes a stunning display as you can see below.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
