To the top is a charming figure of a torch bearer, bringing enlightenment, with a cockerel, a symbol of courage and alertness in mythology. The torch bearer is also applied to the front of the door with a goddess mask below. The original wall bracket is also red veneer mounted with ormolu. This is a superb clock, impeccably restored in our workshop and tested to ensure proper running. The very large gilded dial is mounted with 12 individual cartouche letters and is complete with original finely hand fretted and blued steel hands. The French movement is of the highest quality. It is the large square plated version of the Pendule de Paris movement. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. The large ormolu sunburst pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a coiled gong. Click the video clip below to hear the gong and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is
excellent, the original gilded bronze is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any
wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The red veneer is also in
excellent condition with just an occasional mark or slight crack. The dial is also in excellent
condition with no damage. One original glass side panel has a light scratch. The front door lock is fully working with the original key. Complete with original pendulum, bell, door key and a suitable winding key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
