Antique French Gilt Brass Clock Set

A beautiful Louis XVI style gilded clock set, architectural in shape and profusely decorated with delicate floral fret work. To the sides of the dial stand two mythical creatures. The original finish is clean and bright and displays beautifully. Candelabra are of conforming style and are complete with original snuffers which store in the central nozzle as finials. The pendulum of the clock can be seen swinging inside the case through the front fret work and the back door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen. This means the set will display very nicely on a table; the candelabra are modelled both front and back and the back of the clock is also decorated.

The movement is by Samuel Marti, one of top French makers from this time, and dates from around 1880. It is an 8 day movement and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have cleaned and serviced the movement and thoroughly function tested it. The pendulum is an old replacement. Dial is enamel on copper with a fretted gilded brass centre, lettered in black roman numerals with red half hour markers. Click the movie below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some very minor wear to the original gilding on the high spots and the candelabra arms are slightly distorted. The dial has some slight chipping around the left hand winding hole.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
