Antique Wall Clock ~ French Gilt Bronze Cartel by Japy Freres~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A very decorative original antique French cartel wall clock by the famous maker Japy Freres. It is beautifully modelled in gilt bronze in the Baroque style, beautifully clean and bright. Above the dial is an elaborate acanthus motif in front of a swan neck pediment. Below the dial are a pair of stylised, scrolling mythical creatures.
The super, large dial is enamel on copper with a heavy bronze centre, red half-hour makers and original blued steel hands. It is covered by convex, bevelled glass. The French movement is by Japy Freres and has the clockmakers mark on the movement backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition just 2 hairlines, one at the 2 o'clock and one between the 8 and 9 o'clock, these hardly detract. A stunning Japy Freres cartel to add to your collection.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
