Japy Freres Antique French Clock Set

A stunning clock set 'Garniture de cheminee' by Japy Freres, in beautiful clean and bright condition. Modelling of the set is superb, heavily formed with crisp, clean and well finished edges. It is in the style of Louis XVI, profusely decorated with blind fretted foliage and floral swags, scrolls and masks. Both clock and candelabra sit on scroll bracket feet and are surmounted by trefoil finials, the candelabra finials being snuffers.

The dial is cast brass and is mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouches.   

The Japy Freres movement is of the high quality one would expect from this maker. It runs for 8 days and strikes half hourly on a bell and is complete with a replacement pendulum. It is the more unusual movement with detachable main spring barrels, pin-pallet dead-beat escapement and rack striking. It has been fully overhauled by our clock maker and is in excellent working order. Click the movie below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

  Condition is excellent, the case has a clean and bright finish with some very minor wear or tarnish. The candelabra arms are very slightly distorted. The dial is also in excellent condition, with no chips or scratches just some very very small nibbles to the edges of the cartouches. A stunning clock set ready for display, as you can see below!
