Japy Freres Large Antique Rococo Cartel Wall Clock~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A large, bold and stunning original antique French brass Rococo cartel clock, classic Rococo asymmetrical shape with bold and flamboyant scrolls and foliage. It is beautifully modelled in gilt brass, scrolling, entwined foliage forms the case with 'C' scrolls to the shoulders with floral swags. Below the dial the case is fretted to allow the pendulum to be seen swinging behind. The modelling is crisp and well detailed with a bright and clean finish.
The superb dial is enamel on copper with blue lettering to both the hour ring and the separate minute ring. It is complete with finely fretted gilt brass hands and convex glass. The French movement is by Japy Freres and has the makers mark on the movement backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
