Japy Freres Antique Rococo Clock Set

A simply stunning original antique French Rococo clock set by the famous maker Japy Freres. It is of a good size, elegantly modelled in gilded brass in typical Rococo style. The case is waisted with fretted front that allows a glimpse of the pendulum swinging within. It is decorated with foliate and floral swags, 'C' scrolls and an elaborate urn to the top. Candelabra have bold bases, handled urns and four branches modelled as acanthus. This is a very decorative set, ready to display.  

The dial is the most sought after cream enamel with blue lettering and separate minute ring. It has finely fretted gilt brass hands and convex glass fitted to the Rococo bezel.

The French movement is by Japy Freres and has the makers mark on the movement backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous gong. Gong striking is very unusual in this type and style of clock. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition just some nibbles next to the winding holes. The set makes a stunning display as you can see below.
