French Boulle Boudoir Clock ~ French - Circa 1870 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A stunning original antique French Rococo boudoir clock. It is beautifully decorated with Boulle work, finely inlaid red shell veneer and polished brass. It is typically Rococo, with a waisted keyhole shape and is mounted with finely cast ormolu. To the front is a window to allow the ormolu sunburst pendulum to be seen swinging within the case. This is a delightful little boudoir clock in excellent condition.
The dial is white enamel with blue lettering. It has a separate minute ring and the original finely fretted gilt brass hands. The French movement is of high quality and has the Vincenti et Cie 'Medaille D'Argent' mark on the backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition and the ormolu pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish. Boulle work is excellent, there are no major losses to the shell or brass inlay. The dial is also excellent with just some tiny nibbles around the winding holes. Ormolu is excellent, bright and clean and no losses.
