Large Antique French Gilt Brass Clock ~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~
A large, majestic and well made original antique French clock, beautifully
modelled with crisp detail in gilded brass. The style is French Baroque with
trailing foliage, mythical creatures and a goddess mask. The front is fretted to
allow the pendulum to be seen swinging within the case. To the sides are shields
forming part of the stylised pillars and it stands on scroll bracket feet.
This is a large, heavy and impressive clock in lovely clean and bright
condition.
The dial is enamel on copper with a gilt brass centre and fretted blued steel hands. The bezel is of hobnail design, fitted with convex, bevelled glass. The retailers town of Neufchatel is signed on the dial, the retailers name is absent. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. The Louis Japy mark is on the movement backplate. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles next to the winding holes and a slight mark near the nine o'clock.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
