Stunning
Red Marble and Ormolu Table Clock ~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A superb original antique French table clock, made of the most stunning variegated specimen marble, a lovely deep red with dark maroon veining. It is classical in style, mounted with finely modelled and finished ormolu (finely gilded brass). To the front is a torché and quiver of arrows with a floral swag below, musical trophies to the sides and an urn with pineapple final and drapes to the top.
The superb dial is cream enamel with delicately painted floral swags and the original finely fretted gilt brass hands. It has a hobnail bezel with convex bevelled glass. The French movement is by A. D. Mougin and is of high quality. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is
excellent, the ormolu is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any
wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The marble is also excellent
with a good original polish and only the occasional nibble to the edges. The dial is also in excellent
condition with no chips or scratches. Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
