Huge Antique French Cartel Wall Clock ~ Dragons ~ French - Circa 1870 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A magnificent gilded brass cartel clock featuring two dragons standing guard above the clock. It is 33 inches in height and is profusely and boldly decorated, dragons are particularly well modelled. The gilding is in very good original condition and the the clock looks stunning as you can see in the pictures below. This is a large and heavy clock that will require a substantial screw or spike to support it. The dial is enamel on copper with a heavy cast brass centre. The Paris retailers mark is on the dial and it is complete with original blued steel hands. The heavy bezel is glazed with convex glass.
The French movement is of the highest quality and is by Samuel Marti. The clockmakers mark is on the movement backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. It is the larger plate version of the Pendule de Paris movement with dead beat pin-pallet escapement and rack striking. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a large sonorous bell. Click the video clip below to this actual clock running and striking. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition just a small and very faint hairline near the 12 o'clock.
