Large Antique French Rococo Clock

A large and stunning original antique French brass table clock in lovely condition. The style is Rococo, waisted keyhole shape covered with bold acanthus scrolls and floral swags. It stands on its original integral base, heavily modelled with splayed feet and acanthus leaves. The large dial is enamel on copper and features beautiful Louis XV style finely fretted hands. The heavy bezel is fitted with convex glass. To the front and sides are velvet backed sound frets.

The rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The design is beautifully bold and heavily moulded in brass, well chased and finished. It is modelled in the round and so would display very well on a table.

The French movement is of high quality and has the Samuel Marti mark on the movement back plate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with a clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some minor wear / surface scratches and discolouration in places. We have replaced the red velvet with new. The dial is also in excellent condition with just a some minor nibbles around the winding holes and some slight chipping / hairlining at the edge near the 45. This is a stunning clock in excellent condition, ready for your collection.
