Antique French Gothic Clock Set

A stunning gilt brass antique French clock set in excellent condition. Style is French Gothic, clock case has an arched top supported by spiral turned columns. These are supported by mythical sea creatures, the sea being formed by stylised waves in the form of bold, pieced 's' shaped scrolls. Beneath the dial there is a goddess mask and to the shoulders of the case are grotesque masks. Candelabra have conforming bases, above which are ovoid urns on which are the candelabra. The original snuffers are present which are stored in the middle sconce as a finial. Detailing of the set is fine and well finished and the original gilding is in very good, clean and bright condition.

Dial is large gilt brass, mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouches. It is complete with the original blued steel hands.

The French movement is of high quality, it runs for 8 days and strikes half hourly on a bell. It has been fully overhauled by our clock maker who has replaced the missing pendulum and bell. Click the movie below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with good original gilding which is bright and clean with just some wear or tarnish. There is an old repair to one candelabra arm which is hardly visible and some of the drip pans have some distortion. The central sconce of one candelabrum has a small repair to the rim. The arms of the candelabra are slightly distorted. The dial is also in good condition, no damage to the enamel cartouches.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
