A stunning gilt brass antique French clock set in excellent condition. The clock is gothic in style, loosely architectural with fretted front and sides and a fretted domed top. The front fretwork panel depicts a knight on horse back. To the corners of the clock are banners with fleur-de-lis finials, below which are brackets styled as mythical sea creatures. Candelabra have conforming bases surmounted by pieced ovoid urns which are themselves surmounted by the 5 light candelabra. The original snuffers are present which are stored in the middle sconce as a finial. Detailing of the set is fine and well finished and the original gilding is in very good, clean and bright condition.

Dial is large and is enamel on copper with a cast brass, blind fretted centre. It is complete with the original pieced brass hands and is covered by bevelled convex glass.

The French movement is of high quality and is by A. D. Mougin, their mark is on the movement backplate. It runs for 8 days and strikes half hourly on a bell. It has been fully overhauled by our clock maker who has replaced the missing pendulum. Click the movie below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with good original gilding which is bright and clean. There are no losses to the case or candelabra. The arms of the candelabra are very slightly distorted. The dial is also in good condition, there are some small cracks at the 8 o'clock position, at the outside of the dial, a hairline at the 4 o'clock position and some small nibbles around the winding holes.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
