Stunning Antique French Rococo Clock Set ~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A beautiful original antique French Rococo gilt brass clock set. It is of classic Rococo style, waisted keyhole shape with asymmetric flowing acanthus, 'C' scrolls and floral swags. Both the clock and candelabrum sit on their original integral bases which are elaborately fretted. The sides of the clock are also fretted to allow a glimpse of the pendulum swinging within and the rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen. Candelabra are similarly styled and feature 3 arms modelled as entwined foliage. The original snuffers sit in the central nozzles.
The dial very pretty, it is cream enamel on copper, lettered in black and highlighted in red. It is complete with the original finely cut gilt brass hands. The French movement is by A. D. Mougin and has the clockmakers mark on the movement backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition, no chips or scratches. Candelabra are slightly distorted. The set makes a stunning display as you can see below.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
