Antique French Gilt and Marble Table Clock ~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A beautiful original antique French table clock featuring a pair of winged cherubs, playfully tussling. The reeded column base is made of the most stunning variegated specimen marble, a lovely deep red with white crystalline veining. The figures are finely modelled in good quality gilded metal, full of movement and life. A quiver of arrows lies at their feet, symbolising love. The dial is enamel on copper and has a separate minute ring and finely fretted gilt brass hands. The bezel is fitted with convex glass.
The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is
very good, the original gilding is clean and bright with some slight
discolouration and tarnish giving it an antique character. The dial is also in
very good
condition, just some nibbles to the winding
holes and around the Brocot shaft near the 12 o'clock. The marble is in
excellent condition with a lovely polish and just very minor nibbles to the
edges. Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
