Antique French Gilt Brass Clock
Set ~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ This is a superb, decorative antique French clock and candelabra set. Beautiful Rococo waisted shape with "C" scrolls, shells and floral swags. The front of the clock has a fretted panel allowing the pendulum to be glimpsed swinging within the case. The set is very well modelled in gilt brass which has a lovely clean and bright finish.
Dial is particularly pretty, enamel on copper and is complete with the original blued steel hands. Candelabra are complete with Rococo finial snuffers. The four arms are delicately modelled as entwining foliage, standing above urns with 'c' scroll handles. The set is of very good quality with crisp, sharp and finely detailed modelling and the gilding has a lovely clean and bright finish. French movement is by Louis Japy and is of very good quality. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes half-hourly on a bell. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker who has also replaced the pendulum. Click the video clip below to see and hear the movement working! Condition of the case is excellent with a bright and clean finish, some minor wear on the high spots. Dial is also in excellent condition with just a faint hairline near the 3 o'clock. The candelabra arms are very slightly distorted. The central nozzles have holes to allow wax to drain. The set looks great as you can see in the pictures below! Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
