Rococo Red Veneer and Ormolu Bracket Clock ~ Stunning.

A beautiful antique French Rococo bracket clock of the highest quality, featuring a large square plate movement with original ormolu pendulum, glazing to three sides and internal veneering of the back door and the floor of the case. Sun god pendulum can be seen swinging inside the case.

It is of typical Rococo waisted keyhole shape, with beautifully figured natural red veneer mounted with finely modelled ormolu (gilded brass). Ormolu mounts are modelled as scrolling foliage, 'c' scrolls and a shell on the top of the clock with a tiny dolphin.

The dial is large and of the best quality, engraved brass which is mounted with 12 large enamel cartouche numerals. It is complete with hand fretted blued steel hands.

The French movement is of the highest quality being the particularly good large square plate version of the Pendule de Paris movement. It is fitted with dead-beat pin pallet escapement and rack striking, and is signed by the Parisian clock maker A&N. Original ormolu sun god pendulum is also signed by the clockmaker. The movement is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker, it runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous coiled gong mounted from the roof of the case. Condition of the case is very good with some cracking to the veneer mainly the lower part of the sides where the carcass has moved over time. There are some very minor losses of veneer in places, a tiny piece on the top. Ormolu is in excellent condition with just some minor wear on the high spots. Original glass is in good condition. Front door lock is missing. Dial is in good condition with some minor nibbles to the edges of the enamel cartouches.
