Antique French Rococo Cartel Wall Clock

A stunning original antique French gilt brass Rococo Cartel clock, classic Rococo asymmetrical shape with 'C' scrolls, foliage and floral swags. The dial is enamel on copper with outside minute ring and original fretted blued steel hands. The modelling is crisp and well detailed with a bright and clean finish. The pendulum can just be see swinging below the dial behind the fretted panel.

The movement is by the French maker Samuel Marti and has their mark on the movement backplate. It is in excellent clean and working condition and runs for 8 days on one wind. Pendulum is a replacement. It strikes the hours and half-hours on a bell. You can see the movement running and striking in the video clip below.

Condition of the case is excellent with an excellent clean and bright finish to the original gilding. There is some very minor wear or discolouration in places. The back box has been repaired with some new brass work but this can not be seen from the front. The dial is in very good condition, just a small chip above the 12 o'clock and a faint hairline near the 2 o'clock. There is a small light scratch on the glass.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
