Stunning Antique French Boulle Work Clock - silk suspension movement Circa 1840 ~ Clockmaker - Baullier et Fils ~ ~~ Excellent Condition ~~ A rare Boulle work clock, brass, faux tortoise shell and bone or possibly ivory dating from around 1840. The Boulle work is a geometric pattern and is very intricate. The mounts are ormolu which has worn and mellowed to a lovely un-restored patina. The dial is enamel on copper and the back and the sides of the clock are ebonised. The movement is by the little known Baullier et Fils and has the earlier silk suspension. It is of excellent quality, runs for 8-days and strikes on a bell. Click here to hear the bell strike! Condition of the movement is excellent clean and running. The pendulum is original and the movement is original to the dial bezel, all three having matching serial numbers. Condition of the case is very good. The Boulle work is very delicate and has some minor losses. Some small pieces of the bone / ivory are missing and there is one piece that has been replaced quite crudely although this is only 3/8" long. Some sections of the brass inlay have lifted and one section on the bottom left hand side of the front has some slight glue residue visible. As usual with any antique item, there are some minor dings scratches etc. The enamel dial is in excellent condition with no cracks or damage. Dimensions: Height 16 1/2", Width 12", Depth 5".
