Antique Clock Set ~ Chinoiserie Design with Chinese Dragons~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A Stunning original antique French clock set. It is beautifully made in gilt brass in the Chinoiserie design featuring Chinese dragons. The clock stands on its integral polished, cushion shaped base. Four dragons carry the clock that is mounted in the waisted case. Above the dial is an elaborate scalloped niche with a mythical bird within. The reflection of the pendulum swinging can be glimpsed in the polished base. Candelabra are conforming in style with two seated dragons holding aloft a pierced urn which carries the 3 branch candelabrum. The set makes a superb display while only being 5 3/4" deep and so would display on even the narrowest of mantle shelves.
The dial is also gilt brass and has 12 individual enamel cartouche letters. It has finely fretted blued steel hands and convex glass. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is
excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with just some
minor
wear or discolouration and a few surface marks. The dial is also in excellent
condition just some slight chips next to the winding
holes. The set makes a stunning
display as you can see below. Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
