Antique French Gilt Brass Gothic Clock ~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A lovely and very decorative clock of gilded brass. It is shallow enough to fit on most mantles but could also be displayed as a table clock. It is modelled in the Gothic style and has a fretted panel to the front to allow the pendulum to be seen swinging within the case. To each side of the fretted panel are reeded columns and above the dial is a pierced top with a finial. Please scroll down for more pictures The dial is also brass and is mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouches and is covered by convex glass. There is also a retailers cartouche with the signature rubbed. It is complete with original fretted, blued steel hands. The rear door of the clock is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The French movement is by Samuel Marti and has the makers mark on the backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some minor wear and discolouration. The dial has some slight chipping around the winding holes.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
