Stunning Louis XVI Cartel Clock

A lovely decorative Cartel wall clock. It is in the style of Louis XVI and is beautifully modelled in brass. It is modelled as an acanthus wreath in which the dial is placed with a bow above. The top of the case has a handled urn with a floral finial. A bunch of acanthus leaves hang down from the base of the clock.   

The dial is a beautiful convex, cream enamel dial with blue lettering and is complete with the original fretted gilt brass hands and convex glass. It is signed by the retailer A Chapus who is listed as working from 86 Rue De Rivolli, Paris from 1880 to 1915.    

The movement is by Samuel Marti and has the clockmakers mark on the backplate along with the retailers mark A Chapus. It is of excellent quality as you would expect from this maker and is in excellent condition having been completely overhauled by our clock maker - click the video clip below to hear the bell strike and see the clock running. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes half hourly on a bell and is complete with original pendulum.

Condition of the case is excellent with a bright and clean finish, some wear and very minor tarnish / discolouration in places.  Dial is also in excellent condition with just some very slight chipping at the right hand winding hole.
