Superb Scottish Mahogany Drum Head Grandfather Clock - circa 1840.

This is a very decorative Scottish Drum Head Longcase clock.  A rich, Flame mahogany veneer has been used to great effect - the original finish of the clock has crazed in places to give a wonderful, deep mahogany patina. Very good quality with solid mahogany trunk door.

The movement is in excellent clean and running condition having been cleaned and serviced by our clockmaker. We have re-made the calendar work which is fully functioning. the clock runs for 8 days and strikes hourly on a bell.

The case is in excellent and original condition. The weights and the pendulum are original, as is the glass. The clock has its original finish which has crazed to form a lovely patina over the years - the case is now a super golden red/brown. The trunk door is solid mahogany, high quality that is reflected through out this piece.

There are some minor faults as you would expect with any antique item. The feet have had some repairs over the years with timber replaced - they look perfectly presentable however. There is a 2" slither of veneer missing from the left hand side of the case above the front foot. Above this there is a small split in the plinth - nothing to worry about. The tip of the moulding above the drum has been replaced. This is only noticeable on very close inspection. We have cut a new key for the trunk door lock. As usual with this case style, there is some splitting to the the sides of the drum head - this is usual due to the thin curved sections of mahogany used for the construction. There are also some very minor knocks and bruises as you would expect. The beautifully cut steel hands are original apart from the seconds hand which we have made to match the date hand. We have carefully cleaned and restored the dial and touched in the lettering which was worn - the majority of the painting is original. The brass bezel is original - we have left the lovely brown patina. 

A wonderful, decorative Tallcase for any gracious interior.
