Louis XVI Cartel Clock ~ Antique French
- Circa 1890 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~
A lovely decorative, original antique French cartel wall clock. It is in
the style of Louis XVI and is beautifully modelled in gilded brass. It is modelled as
an acanthus wreath in which the dial is placed with a bow above. The top of the
case has a handled urn with a floral finial. A bunch of acanthus leaves hang
down from the base of the clock.
The dial is a beautiful convex, cream enamel
dial with blue lettering and is complete with the original fretted gilt brass hands and convex glass.

The movement is by Japy Freres and has the clockmakers
mark on the backplate. It is of excellent quality as you would expect from this maker and is in
excellent condition having been completely overhauled by our clock maker - click
the video clip below to hear the bell strike and see the clock running. It runs
for 8 days on one wind and strikes half hourly on a bell and is complete with
a replacement pendulum.
Condition of the case is
excellent with a bright and clean finish, some wear and very minor tarnish /
discolouration in places. Dial is also in excellent condition with no
chips or scratches. This is a stunning
