Huge and Magnificent Gothic Wall Clock

A Stunning Gothic wall clock, of architectural proportions at over 3 ft in height and constructed very heavily from solid gilded brass. It was found by one of our buyers in Germany at a 19th century castle being developed. It is formed of a large wall bracket, boldly cast as gothic tracery. The clock hangs from a heavy curved bracket with a mythical creature. The clock itself is housed in a large case, fretted to the four sides of the base and surmounted by a lancet shaped top. Below the case is an urn decorated with 2 stylised mythical creatures.

This is a grand clock on a huge scale, it is difficult to sense the scale and weight of this clock from the pictures, it will require a substantial bolt, screw or hook to hang from!      

The dial is deeply recessed in a large gilt brass bezel which is almost 8 inches in diameter. It is gilded brass mounted with 4 enamel on copper cartouches. It is complete with the original blued steel hands and is enclosed by convex glass.

The French movement is of superb quality, runs for 8 days and strikes half-hourly on a bell. It is in excellent, clean and running condition having been fully cleaned and overhauled by our clockmaker who has replaced the missing pendulum with an old spare. Condition of the case is excellent - there are no losses and the finish of the gilding is bright and clean with some minor areas of tarnish / discolouration and light surface scratches. The dial is also in excellent condition with just a faint hairline at the 12 o'clock position.
