Stunning Gilt Cartel Clock ~ Gustavian, Swedish - Vintage ~ ~~ Excellent original Condition ~~ A very decorative Rococo Gilt cartel clock - made in Sweden in the first half of the 20th century. Very good quality - the case is gesso work - plaster and wood, gilded. The high spots have worn to the red undercoat and some minor losses of gilding and plaster only add to the antique appearance. The movement is of excellent quality - German type with dead-beat escapement, made in Sweden. The pendulum is visible through the aperture below the dial. The clock has the appearance of a French early 19th century example, and would fit in very well with any 18th/19th century French interior. The style is Rococo and is from the Swedish Gustavian revival of the 20th century. The pendulum is visible below the dial. The movement runs for 8 days and strikes on a bell. Click here to hear the bell strike! Condition of the clock is excellent and original. The gilding is in good condition, but not over bright. There are some slight losses to the gesso work, minor chips which help to age the clock. The movement is in excellent clean and running condition. The Gustavian style became popular again during the early 20th century; much thanks to the Swedish painter Carl Larsson who's illustrated watercolours of his own house exerted great influence. The movement has the original pendulum and bell. Super looking clock for your home!
