Early Ormolu Rococo Boudoir Table Clock

A beautiful and early antique French Rococo table clock dating from around 1850. It is crisply and finely modelled in ormolu (fine gilded bronze) in a typically flamboyant Rococo design and has its original gild which is in lovely condition. The case is deeply waisted with elaborate 'C' scrolls and foliage. The top is surmounted by a large urn filled with beautiful flowers. The clock sits on an integral base, also heavily and finely modelled in the Rococo taste, the pendulum can been seen swinging through the scrolls.  

The dial is also gilded bronze and is mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouche letters. These are blue on a white background. It is complete with original delicately cut blued steel hands.

The movement is a lovely early example and is by the famous maker Henry Marc of Paris. It has the clockmakers mark on the movement backplate. It is the earlier design of the Pendulum de Paris movement with silk suspension, outside hammer stop spring and angled dial brackets in place of turned posts. The pendulum has had a replacement bob fitted. Our clockmaker has stripped and overhauled the movement and thoroughly tested it. Condition of the case is excellent, there is some minor wear and discolouration to the original gilding and it has a mellow antique colour. The dial is also in excellent condition, there is a slight nibble to the 12 o'clock cartouche and a light chip next to the winding hole. As usual with early cartouches, some have faded from blue to dark blue/black.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
