Antique French Gothic Clock Set

A very large and well made French clock set with modelling of high quality in gilt brass. The style is French gothic, formed as a romantic ruin with flowing foliage, mythical creatures and hairy paw feet. The set features Lions Rampant on a shield on the front of the clock and on the vases of the candelabra. This is a large heavy and impressive clock set in lovely clean and bright condition.

Dial is enamel on copper with a brass centre and is complete with the original blued steel hands. The back door of the clock is glazed with bevelled glass, allowing the movement to be seen.

The French movement is of excellent quality runs for 8 days, striking half-hourly on a bell. We have replaced the missing pendulum with one faithful to the original design. Our clockmaker has cleaned and serviced the movement, it is in excellent clean and running condition - click the movie below to see and hear the movement working!

Condition of the case is very good with a bright and clean finish, there is some wear to the original gilding and some tarnish in places, the sets displays very well as you can see in the pictures below. The dial is in good condition some faint hairlines and some minor chipping around the winding holes. The candelabra arms are very slightly distorted.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
