Magnificent Antique French Brass Drum Head Clock by Japy Freres~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A very large, imposing, beautifully made brass drum head table clock in the classical style of Louis XVI. The movement is mounted in a large drum with super lions mask handles and a large finial to the top. It stands on an elaborate and heavily modelled base with velvet backed sound frets. The clock is modelled in the round and the rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen allowing the clock to be displayed in the centre of a room. It has been beautifully restored in our own workshop.
The very large dial is enamel on copper with a gilt brass centre and blued steel hands. The French movement is by Japy Freres and has the famous makers mark on the backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous coiled gong. Click the video clip below to hear the gong and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent, beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition, no damage. We have replaced the red velvet sound frets with fresh fabric. A stunning looking clock to add to your collection.
Complete with pendulum and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
