The very large dial is ormolu, mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouches for the hours. It is fitted with the original hand cut and blued steel hands. Both the inside of the rear door and the base of the inside are also decorated with Vernis Martin work and there is a pencil signature on the underside of the base, this may be that of the artist.
The French movement is of the highest quality and is by A. D. Mougin. The clockmakers mark is on the backplate along with that of the retailer. It is the large square plated version of the Pendule de Paris movement and has the benefit of pin-pallet escapement and rack striking. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a large, sonorous bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is excellent, The lacquer is in very good condition, there are a few very minor losses, slight scratches, knocks etc and a some small areas of touching in. There is a small hole on the outside of the rear door possibly where someone has fitted a knob at some time. The finish of the lacquer is very good, bright and clean with an slight antique crackelure to some areas. The Ormolu is bright and clean with no losses. Dial is also excellent with no chips or scratches. The front door lock is fully working with the original key.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
