Early Sevres Porcelain Mounted Boudoir Clock by Japy Freres~ French - Circa 1850 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A beautiful original and early antique French boudoir clock by Japy Freres. It is made of polished Bronze. It features stunning blue ground Sevres style porcelain plaques, delicately decorated with floral swags. To the top is a finely depicted pair of love birds with a nest and an urn overflowing with flowers. To each side is an acanthus bracket and a floral swag is draped along the front. The base has scrolled bracket feet and is also mounted with porcelain panels, curved panels to the corners. This is a beautifully modelled and early clock.
The beautiful dial is enamel on copper, with separate minute ring and hour ring lettered in blue. Inside the hour ring is the Paris retailers name and address Jallifier of Boulavard Saint-Dennis. Jallifier is listed in Tardy, Dictionnaire Horlogers Francais as working between 1850 and 1860. It is fitted with finely fretted brass hands and convex glass to the hobnail bezel. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The French movement is of high quality and has the early Japy Freres mark on the movement backplate. It is the earlier type of Pendule De Paris movement with outside hammer stop spring but with the more reliable spring suspension. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is very good, the finish is polished bronze so this is not a bright shiny finish, more of a mellow antique. It may have originally been gilded but there is no trace now. The dial is in excellent condition with no damage. The porcelain is in good condition, there is some very minor loss to the over-glaze gilt decoration. There are some light scratches on the glass. A stunning, early clock to add to your collection.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
