Huge Classical Gilt Bronze Clock Set~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A very large and magnificent original antique French gilt bronze clock set, standing over 27" in height. It is of a restrained and chic design, classical with an arched top surmounted by a handled urn. The frieze features a bas-relive depicting a cherub in a garden with a dog. To the sides are goddess masks and is sits on hairy paw feet with acanthus leave supports. Candelabra are conforming in style with the same handled urns and a large and graceful splay of five branches with flower bud nozzels. Original snuffers sit in the central nozzles as finials.
The dial is also gilt bronze with 12 individual enamel cartouches and blued steel hands. The bezel is fitted with convex glass and acanthus spandrels are fitted around the dial. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. Condition of the case is
excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any
wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent
condition with no damage. The set makes a stunning
display as you can see below. Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
