Lane was educated at Lancing College and Magdalen College School, and entered St Mary's Hospital in 1875. He became Resident Medical Officer, and on taking the Fellowship in 1882 was appointed Demonstrator of Anatomy in the Medical School. This post he filled till 1888 when this clock was presented. The dial is enamel on copper with a separate minute ring and delicately fretted gilt brass hands. The front bezel is glazed with convex glass, the rear bezel is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a gong. Click the video clip below to hear the gong and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent, beautifully clean and bright with some minor wear and marks, there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition with no damage. Candelabra are slightly distorted. The set makes a stunning display as you can see below.
Complete with original pendulum and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
