Magnificent and Huge Antique French Boulle Bracket Clock with Original Bracket Lenoir Paris, A. D. Mougin ~ French - Circa 1890 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A simply huge bracket clock, almost 5 ft in height with its original bracket. Sumptuously made Boulle marquetry of red shell veneer delicately inlaid with brass and mounted with finely mounted ormolu (fine gilded bronze). Beautiful Rococo shape with glazed door and sides to allow the pendulum to be seen gently swinging within. The inside is also decorated, fine Boulle work to the inside of the rear door and a Trompe-l'oeil effect to the floor. To the top is a finely modelled figure of Pheme, the Greek goddess of fame with her trumpet and laurel leaf.

The very large dial is ormolu mounted with 24 individual enamel cartouches for the hours and minutes and one to the centre which is signed for the Paris retailer, Lenoir. It is fitted with the original beautifully hand cut and blued steel hands..

The French movement is by A. D. Mougin and is of the highest quality. It is the very large square plated version of the Pendule de Paris movement. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. The large pendulum is original and the clock is complete with original winding key and front door key. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a large bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, the shell veneer is excellent with only very minor losses. Brass inlay is also excellent, very slight losses and only some very very slight lifting in places. Ormolu is also excellent, clean, bright. Dial is also excellent with just some slight chipping to the '60', restoration to the 5 and 10 and some light hairlines to the centre cartouche. The front door lock is fully working with original key.
