Fine Ormolu and White Marble Clock Set
by Vincenti

~ French - Circa 1890 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled and running ~~

A very fine and stunning ormolu (finely gilded bronze) and white marble clock set in the Louis XVI style. Exquisitely modelled, this is a large, heavy and finely detailed set. It features a putto standing on a pile of books, playfully grabbing a cockerel or rooster 'le coq gaulois', the symbol of the French nation and also symbolising alertness. The candelabra are formed as cherubs, one as a young faun, holding the candelabra branches, formed as foliage. The quality of the bronze is superb, beautifully cast and chased and with a lovely original gild with a good colour. The bases of each piece have the 'Unis' foundry or exporters mark. Marble is a lovely creamy white colour with a good polish.

The dial is enamel on copper with a cast brass centre and is complete with original finely fretted gilt brass hands.

The French movement is of high quality and has the Vincenti mark on the movement backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original.  It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a large bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, ormolu has a lovely clean finish but is not too bright. The marble is also in excellent condition with just some minor stains and nibbles. The dial is also excellent with no chips or scratches. A stunning clock set to add to your collection.

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
