Huge Antique French Gilt Brass Clock Set~ French - Circa 1870 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ This is a very large and heavy original antique French brass clock set that has been meticulously restored in our own workshop. It is very decorative in the classical style, beautifully, modelled and finished. To each side is a Caryatid, supporting the cavetto cornice upon her head. Above this a bell shaped top is blind fretted with scroll work and has a large elaborate, pieced urn of acanthus leaves. Below the dial is a lions mask holding a swag within its mouth. Candelabra are conforming in style with matching bases with handled urns above supporting the 4 branches. This is a beautifully made and finely finished clock set.
The dial is fixed within a large heavy bezel that is fitted with convex glass. The dial is also brass, with 12 individual enamel cartouches and original stunning hand cut blued steel hands. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a large, sonorous bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent, clean and bright
with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. Candelabra are
slightly distorted. The dial is also
in excellent condition, no damage to the cartouches. Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
